A new Rasmussen poll has some bad news for Mitt Romney as he heads into an expected run for the White House: 43% of Americans say they wouldn't consider voting for a Mormon for President. Only 38% say they would consider voting for such a candidate. The number is even worse for him with Evangelical Christians, a key social-conservative GOP demographic: A full 53% of them would vote against a Mormon candidate. Still, it could be worse for Romney; the absolute least popular religious affiliations are to be Muslim or atheist, the poll finds. Rasmussen finds that 61% say they would never consider voting for a Muslim Presidential candidate; 60%, meanwhile, would never pull the lever for an atheist.

In case you don't know, Dawkins is a widely respected evolutionary biologist. He holds a chair in the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University; his first book, "The Selfish Gene," originally published in 1976, is considered a landmark in science writing. In recent years Dawkins has poured lots of indignant energy into fending off proponents of intelligent design. But "The God Delusion" is much more than a polemic against creationists: It is a broadside against the whole of religion.

ARE British Christians, weary of turning the other cheek to the twin challenges of secularism and rival faiths, learning to fight back? A string of public statements from senior church figures which have lacked the usual careful emollience suggests they may be.

Two of these blasts have come from Christian bishops whose origins make them immune to the charge of white paternalism. John Sentamu, the Ugandan-born Archbishop of York, made an impassioned attack on the removal of Christian symbols from public places in the name of political correctness. The rot started, he said, when the city fathers of Birmingham decided in 1998 to rename the Christmas holiday “winterval”. Since then, said the second-ranking prelate of the English church, there had been “many other instances where Christianity is being systematically eroded from public view”.

The world's first Creationist museum - dedicated to the idea that the creation of the world, as told in Genesis, is factually correct - will soon open. Stephen Bates is given a sneak preview and asks: was there really a tyrannosaurus in the Bible?

When Polish student Michael Gromek, 19, went to America on a student exchange, he found himself trapped in a host family of Christian fundamentalists. What followed was a six-month hell of dawn church visits and sex education talks as his new family tried to banish the devil from his soul. Here's his story.
